IAF blows up house in southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, kill two people, wound at least four; IDF: House was used as weapons storehouse
Associated Press |
An Israeli air strike blew up a house in the southern Gaza cityof Khan Younis in the early hours of Wednesday, killing two people and wounding at least four.
The attack completely destroyed the house, crushing two people to death and wounding four neighbors, said Nassar hospital officials in Khan Younis.
The army said that the house was used as a weapons storehouse by terrorists and that the residents were warned to leave before the strike.
However, neighbors said residents of the house had apparently ignored the warnings.
Hundreds of people gathered at the site as rescue workers dug amid the rubble and under large concrete blocks, pulling out two badly mangled bodies.
They identified the two dead men as Ibrahim Shaath, also an Al Aqsa member, and his father Ha'assan. They were cousins of the owner.
Also on Wednesday, the army said it shot and hit two Palestinians trying to infiltrate into Israel from Gaza.
But the army could not confirm if they were killed and Palestinian officials said ambulances could not reach the area.
Israel launched a large-scale offensive in Gaza on June 25 after Hamas-linked militants tunneled under the border, killing two soldiers and capturing another.
