Women love mangoes, men prefer bananas

New consumer habits survey finds that Israeli children are not keen on vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables; most popular fruit is watermelon

A new study about the consumption of fruits and vegetables in Israel revealed a fact known to most parents: Children are not keen on eating fruits and vegetables.

 

A study conducted by TBS for the Blue Square supermarket chain found that watermelon is the most popular fruit among Israelis, while passion fruit is the least popular with only 2 percent of respondents saying the tropical delicacy is their favorite fruit.

 

Tomatoes and cucumbers are the nation's favorite vegetables, the study showed.

 

Only 15 percent of Israeli children have a palate for fruits, a finding that raised few eyebrows.

 

Fruit eating children prefer apples, watermelon, peaches and bananas to other fruits.

 

Most adults surveyed said they prefer watermelon to other seasonal fruits. But males seemed to be keener on Bananas and females on mangoes, the survey found.

 

Adults under the age of thirty said they prefer bananas and strawberries to other fruits.
