China repeats plea to EU to lift ban on arms sales to Beijing

At a summit meeting with the European Union on Saturday, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao reiterated his country's plea for the EU to lift its ban on arms sales to Beijing.

A joint statement issued after the talks said China made clear "the embargo should be lifted." For its part, the EU "recognized the importance of this issue" and agreed to continue work on completing a European code of conduct in arms trade, it added. (AP)
