The Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas will never recognise Israel, the group's official spokesman said on Monday, after an announcement by President Mahmoud Abbas that factions would form a unity government. A key aim of forming a unity government is to restore Western aid that was severed when the current Hamas administration took office in March.
"Hamas will continue to have its political agenda ... We will never recognise the legitimacy of the occupation," said Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri. (Reuters)
