Telecom equipment maker Lucent Technologies Inc. said Tuesday it agreed to buy Mobilitec, a Haifa-based provider of content management software, for an undisclosed cash amount.

Lucent, which itself has agreed to be acquired by French telecom equipment company Alcatel, said the deal strengthens its platforms supporting video, voice, data and multimedia applications, allowing more services for mobile and broadband users.

The deal is expected to close by the end of the year. Alcatel's acquisition of Lucent is also set to close by year-end.

Founded in Haifa in 2000, Mobilitec also has offices in California and Singapore. The company develops software for mobile operators and its content platform enables operators to sell integrated mobile content including ring tones, games, music and videos.

Lucent's shares rose 4 cents to USD 2.33 in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
