Children’s CD: Herzl anti-Semite

Disc produced by ‘Shofar’ organization quotes Zionist visionary as saying ‘I have a great idea - to turn anti-Semites into destroyers of Jewish property’

A CD produced by the “Shofar” organization, which is being distributed in schools throughout the country, includes inciting material against Zionist visionary Theodor (Binyamin Ze’ev) Herzl, this according to a letter sent by National Union-NRP party Chairman MK Zevulun Orlev to Education Minister Yuli Tamir.

“Shofar,” founded by Rabbi Amnon Yitzhak, is devoted to promoting the "return to religion" (hazara be’tshuva) amongst secular Jews.

The CD narrator purportedly quotes statements allegedly written by Herzl, including, “I have a great idea - to turn anti-Semites into destroyers of Jewish property.” The narrator then says, “30 years later similar comments were made by another visionary,” while Adolf Hitler’s voice is heard in the background.

According to Orlev, “the disc takes Herzl’s remarks out of context and presents him as an anti-Semite and as one who supports conversion from Judaism to Christianity. The producers also recruited post-Zionist historians to support their claim.

“The producers’ intent is to undermine Zionist and Israeli values,” he said. “They are looking to incite unsuspecting readers and viewers against Herzl.”

Orlev asked Tamit to warn school principals of the CD’s existence, adding that the Education Ministry should respond by producing a disc that would ‘accurately present Herzl’s doctrine.’
