Queen Elizabeth II has made a room at one of her castles available for a Muslim employee to pray in during Ramadan, the Daily Telegraph newspaper in London reported.

An office at 11th century Windsor Castle, just west of London, has been given over so that Nagina Chaudhry, 19, who works in the gift shop, can use it during the month of fasting.

"It feels amazing to be the first Muslim to read namaz (prayers) at Windsor Castle," Chaudhry, a university student, told the newspaper.

"The queen is the head of the Church of England, so it is great to know that she respects other people's faith.

"I think I am the only Muslim working here, so I feel special knowing that they have made such an effort for me."

The Queen made the room in the Saxon Tower available to her after she asked for permission.

A spokesman for the Royal Household told the newspaper that the queen had been consulted and that the office would continue to be used during the working week.
