British official: Iran nuclear issue to go before UN ‘in next week or so’
The United Nations Security Council will begin discussing economic sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program "in the next week or so," unless Iran has a sudden change of heart, a senior British official said Tuesday.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, in keeping with government rules regarding background briefings, said that EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana's latest round of telephone talks with Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, had failed to secure a suspension of Iran's nuclear enrichment program.
