Talk to him

Aliza Olmert should have a talk with her husband, the prime minister

Hello Aliza. This is not a happy time in the history of our state, but it is your time.

We all know that there are times when our partners' minds become confused, and there is no doubt that your husband is undergoing a crisis, but contrary to you, our new relationship with him is not going too well and our understanding of what he's going through is almost zero.

In keeping with our national sport we can only guess "what Ehud is going through" but only you as his spouse can understand "what Udi is going though."

Ehud needs you Aliza, but we need you as well. Ehud, as we know, is from Mars whereas you Aliza are from Venus - no one knows better than you that even after our men began shedding tears in the dark of night they still find it difficult to speak - but only you can prevent your man from getting lost and taking us all along with him.

Have a heart to heart talk with him

In his interviews he has often said what a moderating influence you are on him, and how much he listens to you and values your judgment. So take advantage of these Jewish holy days, take him to a guest room up in the north and have a heart to heart talk with him.

Try and understand what he's going through, where did that statement "as long as I am prime minister I will not relinquish the Golan" come from. Demonstrate empathy, tell him: "Udi, you can tell me that 'as long as I am prime minister I will not wash the dishes,' but why say such a thing to Syria?"

Just a few months ago he presented us with an "agenda" (it even made you vote for his party), now he's suddenly telling us there's no need for an agenda? And he's saying this while Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is warning that the Middle East is likely to explode at any moment?

Try and find out where that crazy desire to become a president with unlimited authority came from. Talk to him, remind him that the country is torn to shreds, that it still has no constitution, and that its democratic tradition is faltering. Use all the weapons at your disposal and say: "Udi, have you fallen on your head, have you forgotten that all the mighty power you are asking for today may be passed on directly to Bibi?

Through fire and water for this?

Explain what every woman knows, that all these little betrayals can ruin everything, particularly the betrayal with Israel Our Home Chairman Avigdor Lieberman.

"Udi, let's say I was willing to accept that my tolerant husband suddenly feels like becoming a dictator, but how can you betray my trust with this rule of law knight? To do it with the father of transfers and constitutional courts of law? Is this the vision of the refreshing party you promised? Did I follow you through fire and water to Kadima for this?"

Convince him Aliza, that real men admit their mistakes. Remind him that he claimed it was he who led Ariel Sharon through the disengagement from Gaza. After admitting he had been wrong for years, it was you who convinced him of the rightness of your path, so only you can convince him to admit another error.

It's not only you who doesn't understand why he scrapped the realignment plan, but only you can probe the intimate details: "Udi, you contend that the war in Lebanon significantly improved our political status, so why are you folding instead of realigning as you promised?"

And after you iron out the difficulties, make a wish for us all. Hand in hand as you make your way back to Jerusalem give him a deep loving look and say: "Seventy percent of the people believe there is a God, but they don't believe Amir Peretz is suitable for the post of defense minister.

Be a man, tell him like a man 'it's not you, it's me,' and buy him another official apartment. I assure you even the state comptroller won’t raise an eyebrow at the price you paid."
