Rocket falls near Ashkelon

Rocket fired from northern Gaza Strip lands in Ashkelon, no one injured

Police said a Qassam rocket fired by gunmen from the northern Gaza Strip into Israel on Sunday morning landed in open fields near a kibbutz in the Ashkelon area.

No one was injured and no damage was reported.

A resident of the kibbutz told Ynet: "We woke up when we heard the Color Red warning system and even before we managed to enter sheltered areas, a boom was heard. From experience we understood that the landing was outside the kibbutz and we are not aware of any damage. Security forces searched for the rocket."

Three Qassam rockets fired Saturday at the western Negev landed in open fields.

On Friday, while residents gathered in synagogue for night services, a Palestinian Qassam cell fired two rockets towards the western Negev town.

One of the Qassams landed in the garden of a home, lightly wounding one person with shrapnel wounds to the chest.

Two more were hurt but refused medical attention. Magen David Adom medical teams also treated a number of people for shock.

A Sderot spokesperson said the Color Red alert system was heard ahead of the rocket hits. Moments later, residents heard the sound of loud explosions.
