Yigal Amir’s conjugal visit to take place Tuesday

Visit authorized for Rabin's murderer and his wife to take place in secure room at Ayalon Prison. Minister Pines-Paz: This is a macabre gift from the State to the murderer Yigal Amir just ahead of the assassination’s anniversary; the timing is miserable

The conjugal visit authorized for Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin’s murderer Yigal Amir and wife Larissa Trimbobler will take place on Tuesday at the Ayalon Prison. The conjugal visit will begin at 8 a.m. and last approximately 10 hours.

No security cameras will monitor the room but the location will be secured. The room itself will contain a TV set, shower, bathroom and queen-size bed.

Trimbobler is permitted to bring dry fruit, pastries and nuts, while Amir may carry with him two bottles of water and kosher food he receives in his cell.

The conjugal visit was authorized after the Shin Bet lifted its security restrictions after determining that the visit would not pose a threat to public safety. The permit granted by the Shin Bet for the conjugal visit is due to expire in six month’s time.

Geula Amir, Amir's mother, reacted news of her son's conjugal visit and said, "Why does all of Israel have to participate in the conjugal visit of Yigal and Larissa? Why does the prison service always make announcements? I hope they are not planning to say everything that happened there."

Amir added, "Thank God, after three years of efforts and struggles, he got his legitimate right."

Minister of Defense Amir Peretz expressed his dissatisfaction with Shin Bet’s decision to permit Amir a conjugal visit.

Bad timing

“It is unbelievable that restrictions have been eased for the murderer of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin,” he said over the weekend.

Labor Minster Eitan Cabel expressed his surprise over the timing of the conjugal visit.

“We are only a few weeks away from the anniversary of Rabin’s assassination, so I can’t understand this whole issue,” he said. “Did Yigal Amir understand that in order to be eligible for a conjugal visit he must mend his ways? This man killed the prime minister and intended to break down Israel’s democratic foundation.”

Cabel said everything must be done to prevent the conjugal visit from taking place.“I believe someone will turn to the High Court to stop the visit,” he said.

Minister Ophir Pines-Paz, who is currently in China for an official visit told Ynet, “This is a macabre gift from the State to the murderer Yigal Amir just ahead of the assassination’s anniversary. The timing is miserable.”

As to the authorization of the conjugal visit Pines-Paz said, “All these years Amir posed a security threat and now he doesn’t? I am not aware of any change. This is a slippery slope – after they allow the conjugal visit they will allow him a holiday from the prison, and eventually, G-d forbid, they may even decide to pardon him.”
