An initial investigation into the incident revealed that the terrorists blocked the road, causing the driver to slow down, and then fired at him at close range and fled the scene.
Israel Defense Forces soldiers began searching for the terrorists.
The man told the medical team treating him that he was driving, when he saw three terrorists dressed as shepherds blocking the road. At a certain stage, he said, one of the terrorists approached him, pulled out a gun and shot him at close range, injuring him in his hand.
According to the driver, at this stage the terrorists escaped. He later reported the incident to the Kiryat Arba call center and continued to drive to the close junction.
Benny Teneh, an MDA ambulance driver, who attended to the injured man, told Ynet: "We received a call from a man who said he was shot. We did not have the exact location, so we sent out two ambulances.
"I arrived at the junction and saw a man injured in his hand. The wounded said he had lifted his hand to defend himself and was hurt in his hand. We dressed his wounds and evacuated him to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital's trauma unit," he recounted.
IDF soldiers are operating against terror infrastructures also in the West Bank. On Wednesday night, soldiers arrested 20 wanted terror suspects, members of Hamas, the Islamic Jihad and Fatah.
