Tibi in Cairo: Israel committing war crimes in Gaza

Arab MK, PLO politburo chief Kaddoumi discuss IDF operation, PA crisis and Avigdor Lieberman; ‘Kaddoumi described the IDF activity in Gaza as war crimes, and I agreed with him,’ Tibi tells Ynet

Knesset Member Ahmad Tibi (United Arab List – Ta’al) met in Cairo Thursday with Palestinian Liberation Organization Politburo Chief Farouk Kaddoumi to discuss, among other things, the IDF operation in the Gaza Strip.

Following the meeting the two said Israel was committing war crimes in Beit Hanoun and called on the international community to intervene.

“We dealt mainly with the IDF activity in Gaza,” Tibi told Ynet. “Kaddoumi described it as war crimes, and I agreed with him.”

According to Tibi, he and the PLO leader also discussed the crisis within the Palestinian Authority, with Kaddoumi saying that ‘great efforts must be made to prevent a confrontation between Hamas and Fatah.’

The recent appointment of Minister Avigdor Lieberman was also raised during the meeting. “Kaddoumi asked where the extreme Israeli government is headed,” Tibi said.

The Arab MK also discussed the issue with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit. “The Egyptian minister was interested in how this is affecting Israeli politics. The Egyptian officials asked why (Prime Minster Ehud Olmert) asked Lieberman to join the coalition despite his extreme views,” he said.”
