Minister: Schwarzenegger to promote business in Israel

Shas Chairman Yishai invites California governor to visit country to promote economic cooperation with Golden State . According to him, Schwarzenegger will visit Israel in spring 2007; two also set to discuss promoting embryonic stem cell research

Minister of Industry, Trade and Labor Eli Yishai has invited Californian Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to visit Israel in order to advance business investments and promote the economic cooperation between Israel and California. According to Yishai, the governor, who visited Israel in 2004, has accepted the invitation and promised to visit in spring of 2007.

 

Yishai met Schwarzenegger during his visit to Los Angeles along with five other cabinet ministers and other dignitaries who have come for the General Assembly of the United Jewish Communities of North America being held this week.

 

During his meeting with Yishai, Schwarzenegger expressed his wishes to expand trade between Israel and California, mostly because the two states are world leaders in the high-tech industry. The two decided to expand cooperation between California and Israel on development of environmentally friendly energy sources and joint research using embryonic stem cells.

 

In addition to meeting with Schwarzenegger, minister Yishai met with other leaders of the Jewish community and prominent business leaders and visited research centers. This is Yishai's first visit to the US, and he will continue on to visit Miami and New York.

 

California is the eighth largest economy in the world and is responsible for 14 percent of the all US exports.
