UK: Jewish journalist infiltrates Nazi party

Jewish Chronicle reporter infiltrates Hitler-worshipping National Socialist party, whose leader said that 'Jews don’t have the right to live,' in order to prepare investigative story on its activities. He reveals members, many of who have been convicted for race-hate crimes, wear Nazi uniform, hold events and recruit young people

LONDON - A Jewish reporter for the Jewish Chronicle, the newspaper serving Britain's Jewish Community, managed to join the November 9th Society, the British Hitler-worshipping National Socialist party.

The reporter, who infiltrated N9S aiming to write an investigative story on its activities, undertook quite a difficult task considering the fact that his grandfather survived the Nazi death camps.

The journalist, whose name was withheld for security reasons, and who no longer lives in Britain according to the Jewish Chronicle, registered to the party under an alias and an anonymous email address.

In order to infiltrate the party at the first stage, he was forced to adopt all its symbols and find an appropriate nickname. He chose to sign off his posts with “88” - code for Heil Hitler, and joined in on-line debates on Holocaust denial on the group's website, until he was rewarded with a password to the next level, which enabled him to reveal the organization's activity.

After joining the party, one has to demonstrate commitment by handing out flyers on at least three occasions, attending two or more demonstrations, and actively contributing to the internet forum. A person's membership is cancelled if he fails to post on the party website for 10 days.

Many of the party members have convictions for race-hate crimes. Members the reporter encountered boasted about beating up people from ethnic minorities and desecrating Jewish graveyards.

During one of the meetings, the party leader said that "the Jews don’t have the right to live," making a Nazi salute to the approbation of his followers.

N9S is controlled by a strict hierarchy, with Kevin Quinn standing at its head. “Nazi Peter”, the national organizer, is second in command, the Jewish Chronicle reveals. Quinn dresses sharply in a suit and tie and wears a pleasant expression, which he explained to the reporter: “If you want to beat the enemy, you have to look like them.”

At the branch, the members adhere to a strict dress code which including all the major Nazi symbols. A military style predominates - high black boots, skinhead haircuts.

The reportedly once witnessed Quinn's rage upon learning that a member wore his uniform in public, since it is reserved for special events in discreet locations. Members of the party with whom the reporter was in contact testified that their wives and children are also very enthusiastic about the idea of “white power.”

The third stage of membership involves revealing and validating the street address of the candidate member. For security reasons, the writer did not undergo this stage.

In one meeting at a pub in North London, the writer asked one of the members how he could support West Ham when Israeli Yossi Benayoun plays for the team. “I don’t care, if he does us good,” he replied. “In the end, like all these bloody Jews, he’s going to get his punishment.”

‘Israel is the real enemy’

In response to the exposure of the party and its activities in the Jewish Chronicle, the leader tried to mitigate his stances, saying that it is rather Israel, more than the Jews, that is the true enemy. But after it was pointed out that most Israeli citizens are Jewish, he answered, without a shadow of irony, “I was under the impression that Israel was formed as a homeland for all Jews. I would invite all Jews to go back there.”

Quinn says his spiritual inspiration comes from Adolph Hitler. He denies the existence of the Holocaust, as he views it as a physical impossibility. Kevin Quinn, 41, a psychiatrist and father of four, claims that his party, which numbers some 940 members, is not Fascist but National-Socialist. He admitted that in the past he dressed in Nazi uniform, but he no longer does so and has never given the Nazi salute in public.

The party was established in 1977 by a far-right extremist named Terry Flynn. According to the spokesperson of Community Security Trust, an organization devoted to the security of British Jews, until 2004 the neo-Nazi party was regarded as a “Hollywood Nazis who liked dressing up in uniform.” In 2004 however, Quinn, who previously served as Flynn’s bodyguard, assumed leadership and changed the party platform. He registered the group as a political party and started actively recruiting young members.

To recruit new members, N9S members hang out at schools and shelters for abused children. Membership in the party costs 10 pounds, and children under the age of 16 get a discount.

The party’s web homepage was redesigned and its active forums are disquieting.

Quinn claims to have subsidized the redesign thanks to the successful sale of Nazi paraphernalia on the site.
