Committee against Torture: High Court's ruling could increase killings

Published: 12.14.06, 12:01 / Israel News

The Public Committee against Torture in Israel, which petitioned to the High Court to cancel the targeted killing policy was disappointed that the verdict did not set clear guidelines on how the policy should be used.

Director General of the Committee Hana Friedman said: "We are afraid the High Court's ruling could create a dangerous slope in which the harming and killing of innocent citizens will increase." According to the Committee's data, since the start of the second intifada 500 Palestinians have been killed in targeted killings, 168 of them were innocent civilians. (Aviram Zino)
