An Israeli man was lightly injured in the leg Sunday after fire was opened on his vehicle near the West Bank settlement of Halamish.
A pregnant woman was inside the car at the time of the attack. The woman was not injured, but sustained some light blows.
The man received medical treatment from an IDF medic who arrived at the place, and was evacuated to the Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva, along with other passenger.
Army sources believe the incident to be a shooting attack, but it is unclear at present whether a terrorists group performed the shooting, or a single gunman.
The incident took place while the car was passing through the Dir Abu Mashaal Junction.
Large army forces were dispatched to the scene of the attack and are currently searching the area.
Security officials estimated Sunday that in light of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Saturday, terror groups will increase their attacks, in an attempt to thwart any diplomatic progress.
A week and-a-half ago a man working as a security guard in the seam line area was seriously wounded after being stabbed in the neck by a Palestinian in the Qalandiya checkpoint area, north of Jerusalem.
The 25-year-old guard received medical care on the spot by Magen David Adom paramedics, and was evacuated to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in the capital. He arrived at the hospital's emergency room in very serious condition.
