On Thursday evening, National Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer is expected announce his support of former Prime Minister Ehud Barak as chairman of the Labor Party.

Ben-Eliezer plans to hold a conference of Labor Party members in his office during which he will urge them to support Barak in the race to the top of the list.

The announcement of support has been coordinated with Barak and may also be viewed as confirmation that Barak indeed does intent to run for head of the party.

Last week, Ben-Eliezer told Ynet that he plans to support the former prime minister and urged Barak to join the race "hungry with murder in his eyes."

Barak hesitated for some time whether or not he should run, and Ben-Eliezer's support was one of the main conditions for his success.

For some time now voices have been heard from amongst Barak's associates regarding the possibility that he may run for head of the party, but he has not yet announced it officially.

Some of Barak's associates stated over two weeks ago that Barak was determined to run for chairman of the Labor Party. However, other associates doubted that Barak would finally decide to leave the business world and invest all his time in politics.
