Haredim stone vehicles on Akko-Safed Highway

Ultra-Orthodox youths hurl stones at vehicles traveling near Bar Yochai community; no suspects detained. ‘I wasn’t traveling inside an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood or community, so I was startled by the attack,’ one driver says

People traveling along the Akko-Safed Highway on Saturday complained of being stoned by ultra-Orthodox.

According to reports, the haredim threw stones at vehicles traveling near the Bar Yochai community, near Safed. Police arrived at the scene but failed to apprehend any suspects.

A Qiryat Motzkin resident who was attacked while driving to visit his daughter at an army base in the area told Ynet, “A few kilometers after the Meron Junction we spotted a group of young ultra-Orthodox gathering by the side of the road. At one point they began to throw stones at the cars passing by. One stone hit my windshield, but luckily it didn’t break.”

The driver immediately stopped and called the police; officers who arrived 10 minutes later scoured the area, but the haredim had already fled the scene.

“I wasn’t traveling inside an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood or community, so I was startled by the attack,” the driver said.

Galilee Sub-District Police said in a statement that it would work to prevent similar incidents in the future.
