Extreme right activist and leader of the Jewish National Front party Baruch Marzel commented on the expected appointment of General Gaby Ashkenazi as IDF chief of staff, saying: "I am pleased that the selected chief of staff did not participate in expelling Jews from Gush Katif. This is an imported step in mending tears among the people."
On Sunday Deputy Chief of Staff Moshe Kaplinski announced that he was not longer a candidate for chief of staff, thus paving the way for Ashkenazi's appointmend. (Efrat Weiss)
