Ex-spy chief, Negroponte, moves to No. 2 job at the State Department

John Negroponte was a popular boss on his first day of work at the State Department. He told everybody to take the afternoon off and go home.

Negroponte, confirmed Monday night to be Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's deputy, addressed employees in the building lobby and announced what many already knew: The federal government was letting employees go home at three hours early because of incoming bad weather. (Reuters)
