Suicide car bomber rams Baghdad checkpoint

A car packed with explosives blew up when the driver rammed a police checkpoint in the Shiite district of Sadr City in Baghdad on Sunday, police said.

There was no immediate word of casualties. Sadr City is a sprawling slum in eastern Baghdad that is a stronghold of the Mehdi Army militia of anti-American cleric Moqtada al-Sadr. (Reuters)
