Labor MK demands punishment for club brawl

Faction leader Yoram Marciano asks Knesset's Ethics Committee to punish him for scuffling with guards at a Herzliya nightclub last week should it see it appropriate

Knesset Member Yoram Marciano said he deserved a punishment for scuffling with bouncers at a Herzliya nightclub last week.

In a letter to the Knesset's Ethics Committee, sent by his lawyer on Sunday, the Labor faction leader apologized to the guards and the public for his actions, saying he was "ashamed of his behavior."

The police said Marciano scuffled with guards at a nightclub in Herzliya late in the early hours of Thursday as he was exiting the premises.

One of the guards filed a complaint with the police against the Knesset member, who then issued his own complaint.

In his letter, Marciano said the media's coverage of the incident was inaccurate, but he admitted that his actions "had brought the Knesset and its members into disrepute."

"My client apologizes from the heart to the Knesset, its members, and to the Knesset Speaker and Acting President (Dalia Itzik). My client requests that you issue a punishment against him immediately should you see it appropriate," Marciano's lawyer said in the letter.

Labor MK Danny Yatom told Ynet that in the next faction meeting he would demand an explanation from Marciano for his "shameful behavior."

"If his explanation does not satisfy me I will demand his resignation from his post as chairman of the Labor faction in the Knesset," said Yatom.
