Lior Katsav probed for indecent acts

Brother of President Moshe Katsav to be questioned after foreign worker files complaint with police; Katsav denies report as ‘total rubbish’

Police are expected to summon Lior Katsav, brother to Israeli President Moshe Katsav, for questioning regarding allegations that he committed indecent acts against a foreign worker two years ago, Channel 2 reported Monday.

The investigation started three weeks ago, after the woman filed a complaint with police after she was arrested by the immigration authorities. She said that two years ago when she worked at an inn in southern Israel, Lior Katsav committed indecent acts against her.

The young woman’s complaints were transferred immediately to the National Fraud Unit, who subjected her to polygraph tests which indicated she was speaking the truth.

Police launched an investigation into her claims. They said Katsav would be summoned for questioning in the affair.

Katsav: Total rubbish

Speaking to Ynet, Lior Katsav rejected the allegations as “another made-up story that is totally rubbish.”

“It is sad that anyone arrested by the police, who committed a crime against the law authorities, chooses to extricate himself by fabricating stories and making false accusations against the Katsav family. This story too will prove to be a fiction,” Katsav defended.

Katsav admitted that the legal firm he worked for represented the inn at which the woman was employed and that he visited the site numerous times. However, he denied ever having any contact with any woman working there.

Last week seven members of the Knesset House Committee voted in favor of the proposal to impeach his brother, President Katsav, due to the indictment against him for sexual misconduct. However, the proposal was rejected as a majority of 19 Knesset members was required.

In the meantime, the suspended president is waiting for his hearing. Attorney General Menachem Mazuz announced two weeks ago that the hearing would be held on May 2, following a request made by Katsav's lawyers.

After the hearing, Mazuz will make a final decision on whether to indict the president.
