Defense Minister Amir Peretz said on Monday that Israel "must take a political initiative and not be dragged. The unilateral perception has worn itself out. I demand and demanded yesterday to hold meetings with President Mahmoud Abbas. We must not be dragged.
Peretz asked Labor party members to make a decision regarding the party's standing on negotiations with the Palestinians. MK Ami Ayalon, Peretz's political rival, said that the matter "needs to be discussed before decisions are made." (Attila Somfalvi)
