IDF soldier moderately injured in Jenin

Paratrooper takes shot in his arm as force patrols refugee camp in West Bank city

An Israel Defense Forces soldier was moderately injured Tuesday night by gunfire at the Jenin refugee camp.

A paratroopers' force entered the refugee camp and stayed in one of the buildings as part of its operational activity. Palestinians opened fire at the building, and one of the soldiers was injured in his arm from a bullet that infiltrated through the window.

He received initial medical treatment on the scene of the incident and was then rushed to the Haemek Medical Center in Afula.

The soldiers who were in the building could not identify the source of the gunfire, and therefore did not fire back for fear civilians would be hurt. After the soldier's injury, the force left the place.

The IDF was expected to launch an investigation into the incident to check if the soldiers were exposed during their activity and discovered by the gunmen at the refugee camp.

On Tuesday, dozens of armed men participated in a procession marking five years since the IDF's Operation Defensive Shield.

Among the participants were Islamic Jihad members dressed up as suicide bombers and children wearing military uniforms and carrying real firearms. Knesset Member Ahmad Tibi (United Arab List-Ta'al) addressed the crowd and call for an end to the occupation.

The IDF's activity in the West Bank continued over the Passover holiday, but was relatively limited. No terror activists were arrested by the forces operating in the area.

An explosive device was activated against an IDF forces in the Nablus area on Tuesday, and a senior wanted Fatah member was critically injured by IDF fire.

In two separate incidents, Palestinians opened fire at the soldiers and hurled a Molotov cocktail at them. There were no injuries among the soldiers.
