El Al raises fares – again
National airline announces $10-30 jump in fares, cites increasing fuel costs. Change will also affect company's 'frequent fliers'
El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. announced it would again raise ticket prices due to increasing fuel costs. Passengers will be charged an extra $10 for short flights, $16 for European destinations and $30 for longer trips. The changes will go into effect on April 15 and El Al has confirmed that the new prices will also apply to its frequent fliers.
The company said that it refrained from raising fares earlier as this is the peak period for vacationers to purchase package holiday deals at relatively lower prices.
El Al commerce chief Rami Levy: "With oil prices nearing $70 a barrel we have no choice but to adjust our fares accordingly." Levy said that change was minimal and that El Al's response to rising fuel rates was no different than that of other airlines.
