Southern Chile. Stormy weather (Archive)
Eight Israeli hikers who went missing in the Puyehue national park in southern Chile, were located by a rescue team Saturday. Searches for the hikers were launched after they failed to return from a trek which was scheduled to be completed three days ago.
In recent days, the park's authority has called on all hikers to leave the park due to stormy weather conditions.
Search teams working for the "Harel 669" insurance company in South America have entered the park and started looking for the Israelis earlier Saturday, by foot and on horseback, and a helicopter was set to begin searches as well.
Israel's consul in Santiago Ilan Weizman left for the park in order to follow the rescue efforts closely.
The Puyehue national park is located about 625 miles south of the capital of Santiago. In December 2006, three Israelis went missing in the park and were found several days later by rescue teams.
