June Walker nominated to chair Conference of Presidents

Hadassah president recommended by committee to replace current Conference of President's chairman, Harold Tanner

James S. Tisch, Past Chairman of the Conference of Presidents and Chairman of its 2007 Nominating Committee, reported to the Conference of Presidents the recommendation of the Nominating Committee that June Walker, president of Hadassah, be the next Conference chairman beginning June 1, 2007.

Walker will succeed the current chairman, Harold Tanner. Tisch said that the committee considered and met with a number of outstanding candidates. “June has been involved in every aspect of Jewish communal life for many decades, and has been an active participant in the Conference of Presidents in her capacity as president of Hadassah.” The nomination will be voted on by the 50 member organizations of the Conference of Presidents.

Outgoing Conference of Presidents Chairman Harold Tanner applauded the committee’s recommendation. “I am delighted with the decision of the Nominating Committee to select June Walker. She has been a longtime leader and is highly conversant in the issues facing the Conference of Presidents. She has been an outstanding leader with one of the largest and most important organizations. She is well known in the US, Israel, and Jewish communities abroad.”

Prior to serving as the National President of Hadassah, Mrs. Walker served as treasurer and member of Hadassah’s National Board and Executive Committee. She also served as national vice president and national chairman of the Hadassah College of Technology.
