Islamic Jihad: No commitment to end rockets

In statement, terror groups attacks Egyptian call to end rocket attacks as 'unreasonable'

Islamic Jihad distanced itself from an apparent pledge by Hamas to return to a 'ceasefire.' Since the pledge was given, a Qassam rocket has already been fired from Gaza at Israel on Thursday.

In a statement released on its website, the terror group said: "Islamic Jihad denies any commitment to stop the firing of rockets at Zionist towns."

It also denounced Egypt's call for rocket attacks to cease, describing Egypt's position as "unreasonable."

Quoting Islamic Jihad leader Sheikh Khaled Batsh, the internet statement said: "We in the Islamic Jihad did not give a commitment to stop rocket launch operations and resistance to the occupation, which continues its aggression against our people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip."

Batsch stopped short of an all-out condemnation of Egypt, and "praised the role of the Egyptian side that prevents the enemy invasion of Gaza," the statement added.

Meanwhile, the website of the Hamas al-Qassam Brigades featured a picture of a rising sun and a rooster against the background of rockets in the air, accompanied by the caption: 'good morning Israel.'

"The rockets which were fired yesterday are not the best that we have," the group said on its website.

Al-Qassam Brigades spokesman in Gaza Abu Obiada "confirmed that yesterday's rockets are just a message to the Zionist forces that we are in the resistance playground and that we have many means which can be used," the message added.

"We can fire 100 rockets in one hour," Obiada added.
