The security forces have imposed general closure on the West Bank and Gaza Tuesday, in light of about 10 specific terror warnings ahead of the Shavuot holiday. The warnings refer to suicide bombings, rocket fire from Gaza, and the placing of explosive devices in northern Samaria by Hamas and the Islamic Jihad.
The closure will go into force on Tuesday and defense officials will decide whether to lift it when the holiday ends Wednesday evening, in accordance with security intelligence.
The police went into a state of high alert across the country Tuesday morning, and forces deployed in crowded places, including markets, and hitchhiking posts. The activity will focus on three regions – the seam line area, the area surrounding Jerusalem and within major cities.
Many Israelis are expected to visit parks and recreational facilities on Wednesday, and policemen will also deploy in these places during the day.
the police will also operate in large numbers in Jerusalem, where thousands are expected to attend prayers at the Western wall.
