Ministry of health: number of smokers steady
None
The percentage of cigarette smokers among the general Israeli public has not changed over the last few years. The number of smokers has grown in proportion to the growth in population. This information was disclosed by Dr Manfred Green, head of the Israel Center for Disease Control.
This data was released toward International No Smoking Day on May 31. The data showed that 26.6 percent of men and 19.7 percent of women were smokers. Health Minister Yacov Ben-Yizri said that he planned to propose a bill that would raise duty on cigarettes and limit placement of cigarette vending machines. (Meital Yasur-Beit Or)
