The Israeli army will soon deploy along the border with the Gaza Strip a new defense system that will allow soldiers to identify and shoot at terrorists approaching the Israeli border from a distance, the army said.
Developed by the Armament Development Authority (RAFAEL), the system will lower the risk of casualties among troops monitoring the volatile border, security officials said, as the army will no longer have to deploy troops to thwart terrorist activities.
"It sounds like science fiction, but it is here and it is proven and will greatly improve the IDF's ability to thwart terrorist infiltrations from the Gaza Strip," one official said.
Until now the army has been relying on watchtowers and patrols to thwart terrorist activities.
The new system is capable of firing at terrorists instantaneously, unlike ground patrols who need to drive several minutes to thwart attacks and infiltrations.
