Billionaire's husband paroled

Ofer Glazer, husband of Israeli businesswoman Shari Arison, released on parole having spent three months in jail for sexual assault

Ofer Glazer, the imprisoned husband of Israeli billionaire Shari Arison, was released on parole Sunday morning after almost three and a half months in jail for sexual assault.

In July 2005, the Tel Aviv Magistrates Court handed Glazer a six-month prison term and a one-year suspended sentence after he was convicted of sexually assaulting two female complainants.

One of the victims was a helper who was hired to assist his wife after she had an operation. The second complainant was a young woman who wanted to rent an apartment from him in Eilat.

Recently, the court agreed to release Glazer from jail before the end of his sentence citing good behavior. Glazer looked after the gymnasium in the Ramle jail.

In his trial Glazer was ordered to pay each of the complainants NIS 15,000 (about $3,685) in damages and an additional fine of NIS 10,000 ($2,457).

Glazer lost an appeal against the sentence and a bid to take his case to the High Court met a similar outcome after justices reject claims by his lawyers that the sentence was harsh.
