VIDEO - For years, producers and singers of Middle Eastern music, claimed mainstream Israeli radio station discriminated against them songs of this genre were regularly rejected from the station's play-lists. "Middle Eastern (Mizrahi)" artists from the late Zohar Argov to Eyal Golan have claimed that "Ashkenazi" music consistently receives preferential treatment and exposure. Recently Golan expressed his protest at the Channel 24 Music Awards to which he wore a T-shirt saying "Mizrahi is not for me. Shame!" About six weeks ago a new single entitled "No end to love" by Liran Tal, was released. The song turned into a hit onlocal radio stations and was even included in the "Most wanted" show on the Israeli Music Channel (Channel 24). Yet, to Liran's disappointment, music editors of mainstream radio stations of Reshet Gimmel and the Army Radio's music station rejected the song. Liran and his producer, Adir Shalom, did not give up. The CD cover was reprinted, Liran's photo was deleted, and his name was changed to Sharon Keinan. Credit for writing the lyrics and melody was reattributed to popular singer Arik Berman, and the logo of a leading production company was added. Finally, the song's name was changed to "Always." The song, however, remained untouched. This time, the song easily made its way to the play-list.
