Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Jerusalem's churches

If you say churches, you say Jerusalem and there's no wonder: A few of the city's churches are among the most important ones in the world. Dror Davidman, the man and the lens, toured three of the capital's churches and came back with colorful insights

Ever since I was a child I was drawn to churches. It might be the colorfulness or the splendor that stood in stark contrast to the simple, modest synagogues I was accustomed to.

If you are interested in churches, Jerusalem is the place to be. Several of the city's churches have tremendous significance to Christians. I chose to visit three churches and the results are presented here.

Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The first photo is of the vast and splendid space on site. The gold-laid ceiling and the checkered floor seemed like they were taken from Alice in Wonderland

In that same hall, I caught a ray of light. A priest who walked in looked like a rock star on stage

We continue to the next hall. In the photo – a panoramic view from the ceiling to the painted floor

An ancient room found on site kept it's authentic feel

The Ethiopian Church

Located at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre enclave. Yet, compared to the splendor and prestige of the previous halls, it seems small and neglected.

What caught my attention was a small room that leads to the roof

In this photo I try to bring the old, run-down elements of the place that are just as beautiful as the impressive halls of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The Ethiopian Church on Ethiopia Street

Another Ethiopian church, outside the Old City's walls, is located on Ethiopia Street in the center of town. Unlike the first one, it is splendorous. When I first visited the church, I couldn't get enough of it.

A look from the floor to the ceiling

At that same hall during prayer
