Israel Police are investigating suspicions of voter fraud during the most recent Labor primaries, which allegedly were committed at Arab voting stations.
The investigation began at the request of Amnon Strashnov, chairman of the party's central elections committee. A few days after the primary elections were held Strashnov sent a letter the head of the Police Investigations Department, Yohanan Danino, requesting that police check whether the integrity of the elections was maintained in four polling stations.
In two of the four suspicious ballots Ehud Barak won, and in the other two, Ami Ayalon received the majority.
A strategic advisor for Ami Ayalon, who lost the run-off to Barak, said at the time ‘we have unequivocal proof of forgeries on a very large scale”.
Ayalon said following the publication of the results, ‘I plan to report what I have seen at the party to the police and the state comptroller, and any necessary body, because the Labor Party is my home, and my home will be clean."
