One-third of Israelis unhappy with their sex life

A sex survey conducted by Durex shows that 32 percent of the Israelis are not thrilled between the sheets, 61 percent have sex at least once a week, and 60 percent have never used sex toys (which means that 40 percent did). Internationally, the Nigerians are the happiest sex nation, while Japan is at the bottom

What is going on in our bedrooms? Nothing much, according to one-third of Israelis. A recent survey, conducted by the Durex company to mark the launch of a new vibrating ring, shows that sex life is grim for some 32 percent of the Israelis, and that the majority have never used sex toys to enhance their pleasure.

The survey discovered that some 48 percent of the young have used sex toys, as compared with 30 percent above the age of 46. Some 65 percent of the married individuals and 53 percent of the singles surveyed said they had never used sex toys. No significant differences were found between men and women in the use of sex-enrichment equipment.

Men less pleased than women

The survey data further showed that 32 percent of Israelis were not at all pleased with their sex life, but Israeli women were happier, with only 28 percent of them stating they were displeased, as compared with 37 percent of the men.

The Nigerians, however, are the happiest nation as far as their sex life is concerned. The recent survey by Durex International shows that when asked, "Are you pleased with your sex life?" some 67 percent of the Nigerians said they were very pleased and no one responded that they were not pleased at all. The Japanese are at the bottom of the list of nations enjoying sex, with only 15 percent stating they were pleased.

The most unhappy age bracket comprises people between 31 and 45. Some 40 percent of them said they were not happy in their bedrooms, while only 28 percent of those aged 46 and up said they were displeased. Some 25 percent of those who were unhappy with their sex life actually live with a steady partner, while 90 percent of those who were with the same partner for less than one year are happy.

Singles have less fun

Married people are happier with their sex life. While 27 percent of the married respondents stated they were displeased with their sex life, some 39 percent of the singles gave the same response.

The survey shows that 61 percent of Israelis have sex at least once a week, while some 20 percent are having none. The Greeks lead the table of frequency, with 87 percent having sex at least once a week. The Japanese emerge as the most frigid nation, with only 34 percent attesting that they had sex at least once a week.

The survey further examined the impact of the duration of a relationship on the frequency of intercourse and found that while relatively new (up to one year) couples have sex 2.99 times a week on average, couples who have been together between one and five years have sex 2.51 times a week and after five years, the rate of sex drops to 1.6 times a week. The weekly rate, however, is clearly higher among married couples, with 1.62 times a week, as compared with the singles who have it only 1.28 times.

Some 50 percent of unmarried men and women indicated they have no sex at all, or less than once a month. Some 41 percent of the singles have no sex at all, and another 9 percent have sex less than once a month; 43 percent of the divorced individuals have no sex, and 6 percent have sex less than once a month; and 50 percent of the widows and widowers have no sex at all.
