A Palestinian who was behind planting a bomb that caused the death of three IDF soldiers in February 2002 was arrested by the Shin Bet and the police 10 days ago. The man, Nahed Akra, a Popular Resistance Committees member, also admitted to having taken part in other attacks against IDF soldiers in the Gaza Strip.

Akra, 39, was recruited to the PRC in 2001, while he was working in the Palestinian intelligence service. He underwent training and learned to build rockets and improvised explosive devices.

In his investigation, he admitted to being involved in a series of terror attacks against Israeli targets, including an attack against an IDF tank on the Karni-Netzarim route in the Gaza Strip.

Akra told investigators that in February 2002 that he and other gunmen activated an explosive device against an Israeli vehicle moving on the road, and then detonated a much stronger bomb when an IDF tank arrived there to offer help. Three soldiers were killed in the blast.
