Sri Lanka’s military said troops fatally shot two ethnic Tamil separatist guerrillas in the east Wednesday, but the rebels denied the claim. Soldiers patrolling the district of Trincomalee saw a group of rebels and opened fire, killing two, an official at the Defense Ministry information center said.
The bodies were recovered along with a grenade launcher, explosives, rifles and communication equipment, the official said on condition of anonymity, citing ministry policy. (AP)
