During the group hike through the reserve, the man complained of feeling faint. His children thought it best to leave him the shade while they went off in search of help.

The Eid Gedi rescue team was alerted at 1:30 pm, and immediately sent a helicopter to where the man had been left to rest. However, the man had since left the spot, and the helicopter’s pilots could not locate him from the air.

A rescue team was then sent to search the area by foot; the man was found dead an hour and a half later.

In recent days, three other hikers, including two yeshiva students and one tourist, died of dehydration in both the north and the south.
