An emergency meeting was held Sunday by the police’s traffic department, following a wave of deadly traffic accidents in the country.

During the meeting, it was decided that the traffic department would increase the number of patrol cars during night and weekend shifts. The department would also increase the number of rented vehicles used for undercover activity.

Traffic police will focus on checking truck drivers, and will increase the number of random routine license checks. In addition, drivers caught behind the wheel despite their licenses being revoked, will be arrested and remain in custody until the completion of legal procedures.

A total of 14 people were killed on the road throughout the country during the week. The latest traffic accident, which prompted the emergency meeting, occurred Saturday, when a truck crashed into a private vehicle, killing a man and his daughter.

The man who was driving the truck, a 55-year-old resident of east Jerusalem, had 190 traffic violations.
