Israel Defense Forces, in cooperation with the Special Police Unit encountered great resistance from Palestinians in an operation in the West Bank city of Qalqilya on Wednesday.

During the operation, 24 Palestinians were lightly injured by crowd dispersal weapons used by the Israeli troops.

IDF soldiers and police officers entered Qalqilya early Wednesday morning in order to arrested terror suspects. Shortly after entering the city, three Palestinian gunmen opened fire at the forces.

The troops were not injured and they fired back at the gunmen, who fled from the scene.

IDF sources said the troops approached three buildings demanding the residents evacuate them. The IDF's request went unanswered and the forces circled the buildings for a number of hours.

After the Palestinians failed to clear the buildings, the Israeli forces demolished two of them. It eventually became apparent that the suspects wanted for investigation were not in the buildings to begin with.

During the operation, violent outbursts took place in the city, including throwing stones and Molotov cocktails at the Israeli forces. None of the troops were injured.

The soldiers responded with crowd dispersal means, injuring 24 Palestinians. The soldiers left Qalqilya Wednesday evening, taking with them one Palestinian detained for throwing a Molotov cocktail at them.
