Fighting between government troops and separatist Tamil rebels in northern Sri Lanka left 11 insurgents dead Friday, the Defense Ministry said.
Soldiers pushed into the rebel-held territory near the Omanthai defense line in northern Vavuniya district after observing a build up of insurgents in the area, an official at the Defense Ministry's information center said. Nine government soldiers were wounded in the fighting, the official said on condition of anonymity citing policy. (AP)
