US officials, Muslim groups concerned about charity links to terrorism

None

Muslims should be diligent when selecting charities for Ramadan donations, as the US has not yet established a safe and approved means of providing humanitarian aid, Treasury Department spokesman Michael Rosen told local Muslim leaders Tuesday in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn.

Most donors just want their money to go for food and medicine, American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee member Linda Mansour said during the meeting. But area Muslims fear that by giving to certain charities they may be linked to terrorist groups those groups support. Three Muslim charities have been raided during the past 12 months. (AP)
