Security Council demands end to assassinations of Lebanese leaders

The UN Security Council on Thursday strongly condemned the terrorist attack that killed anti-Syrian Lebanese MP Antoine Ghanem and demanded an immediate end to the targeted assassinations of Lebanese leaders.
Ahead of presidential elections in the country, the council stressed that ''any attempt to destabilize Lebanon, including through political assassination or other terrorist acts, should not impede or subvert the constitutional process in Lebanon.'' The council also wanred against "any foreign interference" in the elections and asked that "the sovereignty of Lebanon'' be respected. (AP)
