Twenty-nine-year-old Yitzhak Levy of Petah Tikva was killed and three women who were travelling with him sustained mild to moderate injuries early Friday when their car overturned on Highway 5, between the Gelilot and Kfar Hayarok junctions.
Magen David Adom rescue teams evacuated the injured to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikvah.
An initial investigation into the accident revealed that the car was traveling east when, for some unknown reason, the driver lost control over it. The vehicle slammed into the guardrail and a light post and then flipped over.
Eyewitnesses said the car was completely demolished as a result of the impact. Passersby pulled the injured women out of the vehicle, but the driver remained trapped inside.
"When we arrived at the scene of the accident we found the three women lying on the road beside the vehicle; we treated them and then evacuated them," paramedic Itay Stav said. "We then proceeded to treat the trapped man, but there was nothing we could do but pronounce his death."
Firefighters who were dispatched to the scene pulled the man's body from the vehicle.
