135,000 Muslims attend Temple Mount prayer

Police preparing for possibility of another Ramadan prayer session next Friday

Some 135,000 Muslims arrived at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City to take part in Friday prayers during the holy month of Ramadan.

 

The Police restricted entry into the complex, allowing only men aged 50 and up and women aged 40 and up into the holy area. Men between the ages of 45 and 50, as well as women between the ages of 35 and 40, were also allowed in to pray with special permission.

 

No incidents were reported during the prayer session.

 

Police are preparing for the possibility of another Ramadan prayer session next Friday in case the moon will not be visible next Thursday; a visible moon will mark the end of the month of fasting.

 

Three weeks ago, on the first Friday of Ramadan, some 93,000 worshippers prayed at the Temple Mount.
