Israel, Turkey to share crude oil, gas
Countries to explore possibility of creating joint gas, petrol pipeline. Project estimated at $2.5 billion, said to link Haifa Bay with Turkey's Jihan Bay
Israel and Turkey are exploring the possibility of building a joint land-pipeline which will allow them to transfer petrol and gas between them, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Thursday.
National Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer left for an official visit to Turkey recently, where he held several meetings on the matter with senior Turk officials.
Should the $2.5 billion project materialize, a 286-mile infrastructure corridor would be built between the Haifa Bay and the Jihan Bay in south-east Turkey by an international building consortium.
The pipeline would initially carry natural gas and crude oil between Israel and Turkey. The countries are also considering sharing electrical power.
