Students run wild in Poland, sent home

During visit to Poland death camps, students climb to hotel's roof, play around with snow and disturb guests. Principal decides to send students home without visiting Auschwitz

Seven students from the Alliance high school in Tel Aviv were kicked out of a Krakow hotel and will be sent home a day before their school trip in Poland ends, due to their unruly behavior.

The students, who were in Poland for a visit to the death and concentration camps, reportedly climbed to the hotel's roof at night, without their supervisors' permission, played in the snow and disrupted the guests' sleep.

Due to their punishment, the seven will not visit Auschwitz.

"The students were clowning around," said the school's principal Varda Cagan. "They were excited about the snow, and it’s a shame we decided to hold the trip now, and not earlier in the year. We sent them home a day earlier as an educational punishment. What they did was unacceptable."

Cagan said that some parents claimed that the decision was too harsh, but added that the punishment was aimed at preventing a disaster in the future.

"The students begged to be able to visit Auschwitz in order to say kaddish over their grandparents, but we decided to send them home straight away," she stated. "Although they did not mean to harm anyone, and were very sorry for what they did, mistakes come with a price. It's important to stress that there were no alcohol, illegal substances or vandalism involved."

The initial report was received via the Red Email
